INTRODUCTION
With the introduction of Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill 2021, society will finally have a statutory provision with a wider ambit to address sexual harassment, apart from the existing provisions introduced by the Employment (Amendment) Act 2012. The current sexual harassment provisions that are found in the Employment Act 1955 are limited to responsibilities of employers in addressing sexual harassment in the workplace only. Other sources such as the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Eradication of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, although helpful, do not demand mandatory compliance.
The Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill 2021 was tabled for first reading in Parliament in December 2021. Will this new Bill provide sufficient statutory protection and adequate remedies for victims of sexual harassment?
