ELECTRICAL SAFETY: LOCK OUT AND TAG OUT (LOTO), 20-21 Jan 2020 @ Brunei Darussalam

LOTO is a very serious safety practice that helps to provide protection to employees. Equipment and machinery identified for LOTO are capable of unexpected start-ups which may result in the harmful release of hazardous energy. Whether you are a facility manager, a foreman or a machine operator and whether you work in a chemical plant, a pharmaceutical plant, a university, a government agency or in the military, it is important to know about LOTO.

Imagine how dangerous it would be to simply leave hazardous machines or equipment out on the industrial work floor with just a verbal warning to employees not to use it? Employees may forget or simply ignore warnings and become severely injured by an unexpected outburst of hazardous energy. This is why the lock and tag are so crucial to employee and visitor safety. Following LOTO procedures prevents roughly 120 fatal accidents and 50,000 injuries each year.

In this course, participants will learn what are the forms of electrical hazardous energy, the importance of electrical risk assessment based on NFPA70E Electricity Regulations, a proper lockout/tagout procedures, why the procedures are important, how and when to use them, and how to safely restart the equipment or machinery.

• Understand the electrical safety regulations and their application
• Understand the hazards and risk associated while working with electricity
• Understand lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures including work permit
