INTRODUCTION
The course provides a broad-based foundation to financial and management accounting, for those who need to acquire an understanding of the main concepts and the practical application in decision-making, but who do not require in-depth theoretical or technical knowledge and details with regards to measurement, recognition, preparation, presentation of financial statements (for internal and external users and decision makers). The course is aimed primarily at non-accounting and non-finance managers and executives, who have business, economics, human resources, marketing or engineering background, but need an understanding of internally generated financial statements for various stakeholders.
OBJECTIVES
Having completed this course, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the role and nature of accounting
- Explain the nature and purpose of financial statements
- Interpret the quantitative information in the financial statements
- Identify and calculate the major categories of ratios used for analysis purposes
- Discuss and critically examine the limitations of ratios
- Distinguish between internal and external information and reporting functions
- Distinguish between financial and management accounting, financial management
- Be aware of contents and elements of financial statements
- Be aware of management accounting reports
