DPO Essentials Your Fast Track To PDPA Compliance, 3rd - 4th November 2026_Kuching, Sarawak

INTRODUCTION

This 2-day program offers practical guidance on complying with Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and its latest amendments. It focuses on everyday data handling challenges with real-world examples for easier understanding.

With the new requirements, appointing a Data Protection Officer (DPO) is now mandatory. The course highlights the DPO’s role in ensuring compliance, managing data breaches, and maintaining accountability.

Participants will learn how to build a strong privacy culture, develop risk-based compliance strategies, and align business practices with PDPA standards. Non-compliance may result in fines up to RM1,000,000 or 3 years’ imprisonment per offence. Organizations are strongly encouraged to appoint a qualified DPO, conduct regular training, and implement robust data protection policies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Determine whether their organisation must appoint a DPO
  • Build and maintain a register of processing activities
  • Apply the seven data protection principles to operational decisions
  • Assess a cross-border transfer and document the basis for it
  • Manage a data breach and notify the Commissioner.

WHY THIS PROGRAM MATTERS NOW

Since June 2025, organisations meeting the prescribed thresholds have been required to appoint a Data Protection Officer and register that appointment with the Commissioner. Making the appointment is straightforward; however, discharging the role is not.  This course prepares DPOs and those supporting them to fulfil the role as required by the PDPA and the guidelines issued under it.
