Course Introduction:

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. – World Health Organization

Mental illness does not discriminate; it can happen to anyone regardless of someone’s position or gender. In Malaysia, there have been many advocate groups trying to bring mental health awareness at the workplace to light. Similarly, there are on-going discussions on the need to amend the Occupational Safety and Health 1994 Act to include a provision on Mental Health at the workplace as mental health and psychological wellness are highly essential in ensuring a well functional workplace.

According to RELATE Malaysia (a mental health advocacy group) it is estimated that mental health issues among employees may have cost the country RM14.46 billion, or 1% of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2018. This is measured based on the cost from absenteeism, presentism and turnover. RELATE highlighted that here is an urgent need for effective measures to be put in place to address this issue. They also further recommended that Human Resources Manager learn how to deal with mental illness at the workplace.

This comprehensive 2 days course is aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and techniques on how to enhance mental health at the workplace to increase engagement as well as reduce stress. Ultimately, participants would be able to implement programs and framework to ensure mental health is well-addressed at their respective workplaces.
